Tourist Attraction Information

The sea is rich in bounty, and off the coast of Wakkanai and around Rebun Island there is a large catch of Atka mackerel, with those from Rebun Island Hokkaido especially renowned for their delicious, full-bodied, fatty flesh. Atka mackerel is also popular on Rebun Island Island, and is a familiar meal served to fishermen on the beach. When freshly caught Atka mackerel is filleted and grilled with miso and chopped green onions on the thick flesh, the aroma of the dripping fat makes for a fragrant treat, and the green onion miso mixed with the soft, shredded flesh creates an exquisite flavor.

Rebun Island Onsen Usuyuki-no-Yu is a town-run day-trip bathing facility that opened in 2009. It is located a 3-minute walk from Kafuka Port, the gateway to Rebun Island. It is a free-flowing hot spring, rare in northern Hokkaido, and is characterized by its clear water that is gentle on the skin and warms you up well. The building is based on a herring guardhouse motif, and the open-air bath and indoor bath offer views of the famous Mount Rishiri Fuji. There is also a jacuzzi, sauna room, and private family bath, as well as a free rest area, so you can relax and unwind.
