Hot Spring Specialties

Delicious cheese made from high-quality raw milk
Agriculture and dairy farming are thriving in the Shiribeshi Subprefecture, including Niseko, where high-quality raw milk is available. Cheese factories are dotted around the area, each producing their own ingenious natural cheese. Some of the cheeses have even won the judges' special award at the ALL JAPAN Natural Cheese Contest in the past. In addition to shops where you can purchase fresh cheese, some factories also have cafes and tea rooms that serve processed sweets such as cheese, cheese soft serve ice cream, cheese pudding, and fromage blanc.

Hot Springs

Takeo Arishima, former farm owner in Niseko
One of Niseko's tourist spots is the Arishima Memorial Museum, which displays works, letters, and photographs of Takeo Arishima, a representative writer of the Shirakaba school, and allows visitors to learn about his literature and personality. Takeo Arishima, who aspired to be an agricultural scientist and went on to Sapporo Agricultural College, inherited a farm from his father. This was the Arishima Farm in Karifuto Village (now Niseko Town), and the memorial museum stands near the site of the former office. Niseko is also the setting for his breakthrough work, "Descendants of Cain," which shows the deep connection between this place and Takeo Arishima.
