Hot Spring Specialties

Savor the fresh seafood of the Setouchi region
Osakikamijima is a warm island surrounded by the nature-rich Seto Inland Sea, and is blessed with both seafood and local ingredients. The inn serves dishes that make generous use of the local fresh ingredients. In addition to stone-grilled sea bream and conger eel, fried small sardines, live squid, and raw octopus, seasonal dishes such as deep-fried scorpionfish and pressed rockfish sushi are not to be missed. Ingredients such as mandarin oranges, lemons, and blueberries also add depth to the dishes.

Mt. Daisen trove of national treasures and solo sumo
Mt. Daisen Shrine is the symbol of Omishima Island. The treasure museum at the back of the shrine grounds, surrounded by a primeval forest of camphor trees, houses armor, helmets, swords and other weapons from the Heian period to the early Edo period. The number of items, including small items, reaches tens of thousands. Famous national treasures include the Akaito armor donated by Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the Murasakiyo armor donated by Minamoto no Yoritomo, and the Bird, Animal and Grape Mirror donated by Empress Saimei. At the Otaue Festival in Jun., a one-man sumo wrestler (a prefectural intangible folk cultural property) is dedicated in which the wrestler wrestles with the invisible spirit of rice. If you have the time, it's a spot worth visiting.
