The Hidden Legend of the Fujiwara Clan
Lake Fujiwara, built in 1957, now covers the former village of Fujiwarago, where 159 homes and 150 hectares of land once stood. Legend says that a branch of the Fujiwara clan, fleeing Minamoto no Yoritomo’s conquest, hid in this remote area. Isolated from the world, they survived on the land’s bounty. Nearby Yubiso Onsen is also linked to a legend of the Abe clan from Mutsu Province.
