Hot Spring Specialties

The elegant bathhouse and two guest rooms are national cultural properties.
Chojukan, known for its guest rooms and baths, which are registered as tangible cultural properties by the country, is a hot spring inn that exudes the atmosphere of an Edo period inn. The main guest room building was built in 1895, and room 20 is said to be where Yosano Akiko stayed. The annex facing the Hoshi River was built in 1940. Hoshi-no-yu is a hot spring that naturally bubbles up from the bottom of the bathtub, and the foot area is paved with cobblestones. The bath, built in 1895 and described as in the Rokumeikan style, was designed by a British railway engineer and features a rare Japanese-Western hybrid style with arched windows.

Hot Springs

"Hoshinoyu" known for the Full Moon commercial
The former Japanese National Railways' "Full Moon Couple Green Pass" commercial, which began airing in 1981, starred Uehara Ken and Takamine Mieko as a middle-aged couple, and became a hot topic. The scene of the old stars bathing became a big hit, evoking nostalgic feelings in viewers, and the setting for the commercial was Hoshi-no-yu in Hoshi Onsen. The retro bath, made entirely of cypress, is still the same as it was back then. It is generally a mixed bath, but from 20:00 to 22:00 it is for women only. There is also a newly built indoor bath and an open-air bath, which are divided into separate times for women and men only.
