Hot Spring Specialties

Hida/Okumino soul food "Torichan"
"Torichan" is a local dish from the Minami Hida and Oku Mino regions of Gifu Prefecture, and the name is said to come from "chanchanyaki," a chicken dish. Chicken meat seasoned with a soy sauce or miso-based sauce is grilled on a hot plate or in a frying pan along with vegetables such as cabbage, onion, and carrots. The seasoning and meat used vary greatly depending on the region, restaurant, and household, and in recent years it can be found in many restaurants, and is also sold vacuum-packed at local supermarkets and specialty stores.

Washigatake, the mountain with the legend of slaying an eagle
Washigatake is a mountain with a legend of an eagle slaying. The name of the mountain comes from a legend that in 1221, Fujiwara (Sumi) Yoriyasu, ordered by the Emperor, slayed two eagles that lived nearby with 34 soldiers and presented them as a tribute. As a result, he was given the family name of Sumi and the eight villages of Sumi-go. At Ippukudaira, there is a memorial hall dedicated to Fujiwara Yoriyasu, who slayed the eagles. At the foot of the mountain, there are many place names that start with "eagle," such as Takasu-cho, Sumigawa, Sumi, Mukai Sumi, and Owashi.
