Okuhida Onsenkyo is a hot spring resort consisting of Hirayu, Fukuchi, Shinhirayu, Tochio, and Hotaka. From over 100 hot springs in Okuhida Onsenkyo, abundant hot springs with an average temperature of over 60°C gush out, and the hot spring discharge is 37,000 liters per minute, the third largest in Japan (source: Japan Hot Spring Association "Hot Spring Statistics").

Hantai egg and Hida sansho pepper are classics, both old and new
Tsuruya Shoten in Hirayu's hot spring town is famous for its "Onsen Hantai Tamago" (hot spring eggs). The texture is the opposite of that of regular boiled eggs, with a soft white and a sticky yolk. The subtle sulfur flavor makes it delicious even without seasoning. And let's not forget Hida Sansho pepper. Sansho pepper has been cultivated in Oku-Hida Onsengo since ancient times, and was even presented to the shogun during the Edo period. It has the perfect combination of aroma, spiciness, and numbness, with a refreshing aroma and a spicy aftertaste that will have you hooked.
