Hot Spring Specialties

Gohei mochi, a local dish that comes in a variety of shapes
Gohei-mochi is a traditional dish from the Kiso and Ina regions, also found in Gifu and Mikawa. It consists of flattened glutinous rice wrapped around a stick and grilled. Originally made by woodcutters who grilled rice on sticks over a fire, Gohei-mochi varies in shape by region, with the sandal shape being common in Ena City. It can be coated in miso or soy sauce, and its toasted aroma is quite appetizing.

Hot Springs

Salty Hot Spring in the Mountains
Enakyo Okudo Onsen is a unique mountain hot spring with high salinity, similar to seawater. Its salty and bitter taste comes from its high magnesium and calcium content. Theories suggest it either contains ancient seawater or has absorbed minerals from the surrounding rock over millions of years.
