Makukawa Onsen has long been a base for climbing Mt. Azuma. Behind it runs the Bandai Azuma Skyline. This is a 29km long mountain tourist road that runs from Takayu Onsen in the west of Fukushima City, passing through Jododaira and ending at Tsuchiyu Pass. The panoramic course that weaves through the Azuma mountain range features the dynamic "Eight Views of Azuma," named by author Yasushi Inoue, and is packed with sights such as Issaikyozan and Azuma Kofuji. It is also known as a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves, and is bustling every year.
