Hot Spring Specialties

Okawa River is famous for its sweetfish
The Okawa River that runs through Ashinomaki Onsen is famous for ayu fishing. Every year, Taigong Wang bustles with visitors, eagerly awaiting the opening day. During the season, many Accommodation can be seen with fishing rods in hand, but it's not just anglers who get to savor the freshly caught ayu. The Okawa River has a fishing net called the Tonosama Yanaba, where visitors can grab the ayu that have been splashed into the river, skewer them and grill them on the spot over a charcoal fire, a very rustic way to eat them. The taste is doubled if you eat it while listening to the murmuring of the river and feeling the breeze blowing across the river.
