Hot Spring Specialties

New specialty dish "Lake Tazawa Ajara Nabe"
"Tazawako Ajara Nabe" is a new gourmet dish that won first place in the hotpot contest at the 2008 Tazawako Highland Snow Festival. Amazake (sweet sake) and ginger are added to the white dashi soup made with "Iwana Shottsuru" from Ando Brewery in Kakunodate Town. The ingredients include meatballs from Hinai Jidori chicken, local shimeji mushrooms, Chinese cabbage, long onions, and mizuna. The name comes from a traditional dish called "Ajara" that is served at celebratory occasions in the Tazawako area. To finish off the meal, black sesame seeds and Inaniwa udon noodles are added to the soup and eaten as Inaniwa sesame udon.

Hot Springs

The majestic Double Dragon Mikoshi and fireworks are a must-see
The Lake Tazawa Dragon God Festival is a summer festival held at Lake Tazawa. Based on the legend of Princess Tatsuko and Taro of Lake Hachirogata, which is connected to Lake Tazawa, the festival features the "Encounter of the Twin Dragons," in which two dragon god portable shrines are paraded around the lake, and the brave performance of dragon god drums. As if to celebrate the reunion of Tatsuko and Hachirotaro, the festival also features the "Lake Tazawa Fireworks," a spectacular festival of fireworks on the lake. Fireworks are launched from a platform close by, and fireworks explode underwater, among other things. There are also stalls selling local specialties, and the festival is bustling with many visitors.
