Hot Spring Specialties

Tazawako Town's mountain yams are fluffy and delicious.
The hot spring's specialty is "Mountain potato hotpot." Tazawako Town grows chewy potatoes that are perfect for hotpot. This hotpot dish is made by grating these potatoes and forming them into fluffy potato balls, which are then floated on top of the hotpot. This local hotpot dish was created by local chefs who put their all into their skills. Each restaurant and Accommodation facility adds their own unique flavor to the ingredients, such as chicken, duck, and pork. Tazawako Town has a large difference in temperature between day and night, which gives the potatoes a strong stickiness and a unique flavor. The soup is infused with broth from meat and vegetables, giving it a soft, plump texture that is very satisfying.

The seven hot spring inns in the hot spring village each have their own spring source with different spring quality. At Akita feudal lord's hot spring resort, there are four types of hot spring source - white hot spring, black hot spring, medium hot spring, and waterfall hot spring; Taeno-yu, located along the Sendatsu River, has two hot spring sources - gold hot spring and silver hot spring; and the modern Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo also has two hot spring sources. There are also other hot springs to enjoy, such as Okama Onsen, an inn housed in a wooden school building; Kuroyu Onsen, where you can see the source at the very back of the village; Kaniba Onsen, which has an open-air bath in a primeval forest; and Magoroku Onsen, which has the atmosphere of a hot spring resort with medicinal baths.
