Large, exquisite clams, a specialty of Mikawa Bay
Gamagori City is famous as one of the leading clam-producing areas in Japan, and the clams here are known for their large size and delicious taste. You can enjoy clamming at two locations in Nishiura Onsen, which is usually open from Mar. to Jun.. Since clamming is done in rocky areas, it is useful to have a sickle in addition to a rake. You can eat the clams grilled, in miso soup, or as tempura, and everyone is sure to enjoy the delicious clams. On your way back, you can also stop by a hot spring to refresh yourself.

Hot Springs

The sunset on the Nishiura Peninsula, beloved by Man'yo poets
The Nishiura Peninsula area is famous for its beautiful scenery, and the beauty of the sunset over the Chita Peninsula in particular has long been loved by Man'yo poets, who have written many poems about it. In honor of this, the 500m promenade leading from the hot spring town to Inamura Shrine is known as the "Man'yo Path," with Man'yo flowers such as the Japanese bark bead and the white bush clover blooming there. The path is full of poetry, with seven Man'yo poem monuments, including those by Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, Omi no Omi, and Nagakimi Okumaro, centered around Takaichi Ren Kurojin's poem "Are no Saki," which describes the beauty of Mikawa Bay.
