Hot Spring Specialties

A traditional Inuyama candy with a natural taste and firmness
Inuyama's specialty, Genkotsu candy, is a Japanese sweet with 160 years of history and is produced by Genkotsuan, Fujisawa Seika, Takadaya Seika, and others. It is said that long ago, Inuyama Castle served it to his vassals as food for the battlefield. It is a healthy candy made by boiling down brown sugar and adding soybean flour and starch syrup, and the shape varies depending on the store, from triangular to cylindrical, but it was given the name "Genkotsu candy" because it resembles the shape of a fist. It is interesting to see how the candy, which starts out hard, gradually transforms into a caramel-like softness inside the mouth.

Inuyama Festival, a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property
The Inuyama Festival is a festival of Haritsuna Shrine that began in 1635 and is held every year on the first Saturday and Sunday of Apr.. The main event is the float parade. Thirteen gorgeous three-story floats, designated as tangible folk cultural properties by the prefecture, are paraded around, and mechanical puppets handed down from the Edo period perform a variety of colorful routines to the accompaniment of flutes and drums. At night, 365 lanterns are lit on each float, and the sight of them weaving their way through Honmachi-dori, lined with cherry blossoms in full bloom, is like a gorgeous picture scroll straight out of a period picture scroll. At Dondenkan, four of the 8m-tall floats that appear in the festival are constantly on display.
