Grand Prize
Mishaka Pond, green and quiet
Author: Takao Kishida (living Tokyo)
I was moved by the masterpiece "Green Echoes" by painter Kaii Higashiyama, and went to Okutateshina's Mishaka Pond, which was the motif of the work. The title "Green Quiet" came to mind at first glance at the quiet appearance. The surface of the water is like a clear mirror. I waited for the ripples to disappear and released the shutter.
Comment
Layers of trees and thickets of grass. The different expressions of green resonate with each other, creating a quiet tune. The straight lines of the trees are an important element that accentuates the mystery of the reflected shadow. They are well utilized. The composition is neat down to the last detail, yet conveys the photographer's unpretentious emotion. This is a wonderful piece that makes you want to quietly gaze upon it.
Excellence Award
Mount Fuji from the plane
Author: Terue Kotani (living in Saitama Prefecture)
Two years ago, I photographed Mt. Fuji from Yamanashi side from the same plane, and my wish to one day take a photo from the other side came true. I love taking photos of Mt. Fuji, and have seen many views of it, but the weather was good and the view from the window was spectacular, which made me very impressed.
Comment
The captivating subject of Mt. Fuji from the sky has been beautifully captured all the way to its outer rim. The precise selection of shutter speeds allowed the photographer to reproduce the textures of the mountain surface, snow, and clouds, all in the same white color. This was possible in a short shooting time because the photographer had Image in mind beforehand.
Matabei Cherry Blossoms in Sunshine
Author: Yoshio Akashi (resident of Mie Prefecture)
This weeping cherry tree is said to be 300 years old. When it is in full bloom, tripods line up before sunrise. I waited for the moment when the soft sunlight of the early morning shined on the entire flower and released the shutter. The surrounding peach blossoms added color to the photo.
Comment
The cherry blossoms quietly assert their individual colors as they loom together. The strong vitality of the flowers and the surrounding atmosphere are conveyed. The position and angle of the shot are both perfect, and it must have taken a lot of effort to eliminate any sign of people. The work is like a painting.

Honorable Mention
The scent of early summer
Author: Yuka Hayano (living in Saitama Prefecture)
This was my second time visiting Mt. Fuji this year. The lavender was in full bloom, so I wanted to take beautiful photos of each flower, so I composed the shot looking up at Mt. Fuji from the same height as the lavender. Looking up at the top of Mt. Fuji, I liked how the clouds had a rhythmic feel.
Comment
The bold and impressive way the frame is framed, with Mt. Fuji in the distance. The choice of filters is also expressive. The blue of the sky is powerful and refreshing. The seasonal feeling of the lavender blooming season is fully expressed. The artist's skill can be felt from the careful composition of the photo, which appears to have been done using a tripod.
View of Santa Maddalena village
Author: Tadayoshi Fuchie (living Tokyo)
This is a photo of the Dolomites mountains taken from the Funes Valley in South Tyrol. I arrived in Santa Maddalena village at a time when the sun was slanting, so I was lucky to be able to take a photo at a great vantage point overlooking the jagged Geisler mountain range.
Comment
Imagine the houses and churches surrounded by gentle greenery and the people's lives, and it's heartwarming. But in the background is a spectacular landscape of steep rock peaks. The hard texture of the rugged mountainside is wonderful. The flow of the clouds also creates a sense of depth in the picture, fully conveying the magnificent charm of the Dolomites.
Nebuta Shingen
Author: PN.km0594 (living in Hyogo Prefecture)
The sound of the drumsticks reverberating like an earthquake. I felt like electricity was running down my spine! I had finally achieved my long-held dream. I was carried away by the power and enthusiasm of the floats and dancers that kept coming at me one after another, and I snapped a photo without even thinking about anything else.
(The Nebuta in the photo is Shingen-ko, a float sponsored by Club Tourism in 2013.)
Comment
It must have been rare to be able to get this close to the floats at the crowded Aomori Nebuta Festival, even with a telephoto lens. By eliminating as many surrounding elements as possible and focusing on the motif, the shape and design of the Nebuta floats are reproduced with a sense of volume. A stable shot was captured amid the hustle and bustle.
Midwinter glow
Author: Yoichi Hamada (resident of Miyagi Prefecture)
The weather is often unstable around the winter solstice, but it was a clear day. I was able to capture more of the snowfield than the sky. Even during the day, the temperature was below freezing, but I was able to face my favorite scenery through my camera. Such moments were blissful.
Comment
The sunlight shines through the trees in the snowy field. The artist's feelings of being fascinated by the ever-changing light are conveyed honestly. The shadows of the trees stretching across the neat ripples in the snow are fantastical. The color temperature gives the image a bluish hue, enhancing the atmosphere. This is a photo that makes you want to breathe in the clear air.
Kagikake Pass
Author: Katsutaka Yamashita (resident of Aichi Prefecture)
This is a shot I took after spending a few days holed up at Kagikake Pass. I have tried to capture the autumn leaves of Mt. Daisen many times, but this time I was captivated by the autumn leaves. The ridgeline of the south wall, which changes with the movement of the sun throughout the day, the autumn leaves creeping around the base, and the shadows of the ridgeline of Mt. Daisen 's valley were a wonderful sight.
Comment
This work beautifully expresses the presence of Mt. Daisen. The deep green forests of virgin beech trees, rowan trees, maples, and other colorful autumn leaves leave a deep impression, and the strength and subtle harmony of nature are striking. The sky adds even more energy to the whole landscape. This is a precious moment before the snow arrives.
