What is the "Oki Kokubunji Renge-e Mai"?
Oki Kokubunji Temple is known as the temporary residence of Emperor Go-Daigo, who was exiled to Oki long ago. From Nara period to the Heian period, Bugaku and silent masked dramas were imported and passed down from China, Korea, and other countries along with continental culture, and today the Renge-emai dance is a traditional local performing art. Every year on Apr. 21st (the anniversary of Kobo Daishi's death), a votive dance is performed at Oki Kokubunji Temple.
