World Heritage Site: Aki no Miyajima, Itsukushima Shrine
Aki no Miyajima is a sacred island where the entire island has been worshipped as an object of faith since ancient times. It is one of the Three Most Scenic Spots of Japan and a World Heritage Site. Since its shrine buildings were renovated in the 12th century by Taira no Kiyomori, incorporating the Shinden-zukuri style, Itsukushima Shrine has maintained its original appearance despite repeated reconstructions.
