Hachimantai, part of Towada Hachimantai National Park, straddles both Iwate and Akita prefectures, and is used as a general term for the plateau area centered on the mountains that form the backbone of the Ou Mountains, as well as the areas of Gentamori and Chausu-dake to the east, Tono-dake and Fujishichi Onsen to the south, and Steamo-yu and Yakeyama to the west. It has an aspidis-type topography, and among the forests of Erman's birch and Aomoritodomatsu, numerous crater marshes such as Hachiman-numa, and alpine plants such as day lilies and skunk cabbage spread out around the gentle walking trails.

Hiraizumi was built in the late Heian period in Hiraizumi, Oshu by three generations of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, including the powerful Mutsu Fujiwara Kiyohira, his son Motohira, and his grandson Hidehira, over a period of about 100 years, creating a peaceful utopia in Oshu where golden flowers bloomed, centered on Buddhist culture. Please enjoy visiting Chusonji Temple and Motsuji Temple, which were registered as World Heritage Sites in 2011.
