This hot spring is popular among hot spring lovers as one of Japan's best-known hidden hot springs. It was once used as a therapeutic hot springs resort by the feudal lord of Akita. The hot spring's specialty is "Yama no Imo Nabe" (Mountain Potato Hot Pot). This hot pot dish, with fluffy potato balls floating in it, is a local hot pot dish created by local chefs using their skills. Each restaurant and Accommodation facility adds their own unique flavor to the dish, using ingredients such as chicken, duck, and pork.

Nishimonai Bon Dance

The festival is said to have originated as a harvest festival or a Bon Festival offering, and is a traditional event in Ugo Town. The Kamigata-style dance is mysteriously beautiful, conveying 700 years of culture and history to the present day. In addition to performances on flutes and large drums, the lively and brave music, which includes singers, contrasts with the graceful dance. Due to the eerie appearance of the performers in their gorgeous costumes, bird-chasing hats, and black Hikosan hoods, the dance is also known as the "dance of the dead," and is mysterious yet beautiful.

Akita Eat up "grouper," the prefectural fish of

Kiritanpo, Inaniwa udon, Hinai Jidori chicken... Akita has no shortage of local delicacies. They're all so delicious that you'll have a hard time deciding what to eat when you're traveling there. Among them, we recommend the sandfish, which is the prefectural fish of Akita Prefecture, from autumn to winter. This fish was named "Hatahata" (sea bream) after the god of thunder, Hatatagami, because it is caught during the thundering season from late autumn to winter.
Sandfish has no scales and is boneless, making it easy to eat whether grilled or boiled. It is a white fish, but has a sweet taste and is delicious.
A famous Akita way of eating it is the local dish "Shotsuru Nabe," which is a hot pot seasoned with shottsuru, a fish sauce made by fermenting salted sandfish, and then adding raw sandfish to it.
Shottsuru nabe, which uses sandfish as both the seasoning and the ingredients, is truly a sandfish feast. It is a local dish that allows you to enjoy seasonal fish to your heart's content.
