Kitagawa Village "Monet's Garden" Marmottan

Kitagawa Village "Monet's Garden" Marmottan (Image)

Enjoy a stroll through the Flower Garden, Water Garden, and Bordighera Garden, three gardens which recreate the Mediterranean scenery and gardens of Giverny, France, which Claude Monet loved so much, in the natural surroundings of Kitagawa village.

Kochi Castle

(Image)

The castle was constructed over a period of 10 years starting in 1601 by Yamauchi Kazutoyo, the first lord of the Tosa clan. In 1727, most of it was destroyed in a major fire in the castle town, but in 1753, the castle was rebuilt almost entirely exactly as it was when it was first built. It is one of the few castles in Japan that still retains its original appearance, and the four-story watchtower-style castle tower, Honmaru Palace, and Corridor Gate are designated as Important Cultural Properties by the national government. There are also many other sights to see, such as the Ote-mon Gate, Tsume-mon Gate, and Yahazama-bei Wall.

Katsurahama

(Image)

Katsurahama Beach stretches out in a bow shape between Cape Ryuzu and Cape Ryuo in Kochi Prefecture. The contrast between the green of the pine trees in the background and the blue of the Pacific Ocean is beautiful, and the beach is also known as a famous spot to view the moon. Cape Ryuzu is home to the largest statue of Sakamoto Ryoma in Japan, standing at over 13 meters, making it a popular photo spot. Nearby is the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, which displays materials related to Ryoma, so we recommend visiting both places.

Shimanto River

(Image)

This great river is famous as the last clear stream in Japan. In spring, you can see a yellow carpet of rape blossoms, and on early summer nights, you can see the fantastic sight of fireflies scattering like fireworks. In addition, the natural riverbank is spanned by a "submerged bridge" without a railing, which was built to prevent the river from being washed away during high water, creating a tranquil landscape.

"Seared Moray Eel" made with expert techniques

Kochi's gourmet food is famous for "seared bonito," but "seared moray eel" is also a specialty. Moray eels are only caught and eaten in certain areas along the Pacific coast. They have been eaten for a long time in areas facing the sea, such as Nakatosa Town, Susaki City, Muroto City, and Otsuki Town.
The thick, soft flesh of the moray eel has a light texture. The gelatinous substance under the skin gives off a rich, umami flavor. The two rich yet light flavors are what characterize the moray eel.
The best way to enjoy this flavor is to eat it as "seared moray eel." You can fully enjoy the rich flavor and chewy meat. Moray eels are highly valued in Kochi as a nutritious food ingredient because they remain alive for a while after being caught. If it's your first time tasting it, try the "seared moray eel" first!

Power spot "Hakusan Cave"

Cape Ashizuri is a popular tourist spot with beautiful natural scenery. It is the southernmost cape Shikoku, and the observation deck has a view of over 270 degrees. It is said that the view is so good that you can feel the roundness of the earth. In recent years, Hakusan Cave, located on Cape Ashizuri, has become popular as a power spot for love fulfillment.
It became known as a power spot because the cave entrance looks like a heart and the bedrock above it resembles a woman's profile.
Because the woman visible on the rock face appears to be blessing the cave, it has come to be known as a power spot where love is granted through the blessing of the sea goddess.
The face of the goddess is in a position where you have to look up, so if you want to worship her properly, we recommend going to the free observation foot bath "Manjiro Foot Bath." You can see the face of the goddess directly in front of you while soaking your feet in the foot bath.
If you visit Kochi, be sure to experience the power of nature at Hakusan Cave.
