Osaka Castle

(Image)

Osaka Castle was built in the late 16th century as Toyotomi Hideyoshi's residence. It was burned down in the Summer Siege of Osaka in 1615, but was rebuilt by the Tokugawa Shogunate. Inside the castle tower, decorated with glittering gold, is an eight-story museum. Documents relating to Osaka Castle and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, as well as a full-sized replica of a shachihoko (a traditional Japanese carved statue of a lion), are on display. From the corridor-style observation deck on the top floor, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Osaka cityscape. In winter, the castle tower is used as a screen for projection mapping, creating a vibrant light-filled spatial experience.

Tsutenkaku

(Image)

Tsutenkaku is an observation tower in Naniwa Ward famous as a symbol of Osaka. There are three observation decks in total, offering a panoramic view of the Osaka cityscape from various heights. There are many other attractions besides the observation deck, such as the "Reproduction of the Large Ceiling Painting," which is a reproduction of the ceiling painting from the original Tsutenkaku, and the "Top Floor," which displays a diorama of "Shinsekai" from about 100 years ago. It is said that if you stroke the soles of the feet of "Billiken-san," the god of happiness on the observation deck on the fifth floor of Shinsekai, your wishes will come true, and the tower is popular as a power spot.

Abeno Harukas

(Image)

Abeno Harukas is the tallest skyscraper in Japan (300m) and is made up of the Kintetsu Department Store main store, an art museum, a hotel, and more. On the 16th floor, you can enjoy high-quality art at the Abeno Harukas Art Museum, which hosts a variety of events, including the experiential art event TeamLab. From the observation deck on the top floor, Harukas 300, you can get a panoramic view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and Awaji Island. We also recommend the Observation Corridor, a 360° glass-walled floor that gives you the feeling of taking an aerial stroll over the city of Osaka.

An urban oasis centered around a castle tower filled with historical romance

Osaka Castle, towering majestically against the blue sky, was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who aimed to unify the country, and is a symbolic presence that cannot be missed when visiting Osaka. Osaka Castle Park, which is free to enter and free to stroll around except for the Nishinomaru Garden, continues to be loved as a place of relaxation for tourists and local residents alike. There are other ways to enjoy Osaka Castle besides touring its historic sites that you should not miss. Miraiza Osaka Castle, located within the grounds of Osaka Castle Park, is a complex built using the historic building of the former Fourth Division Headquarters. Inside, the VIP room and other decorations shine everywhere. It's amazing that the building, which was previously only open to the public during special openings, can now be entered at any time during business hours. It is a popular spot with plenty of attractions to spend a whole day playing, including restaurants and souvenir shops, Japan's first illusion museum, and rooftop dining where you can enjoy barbecue while looking out at the Osaka Castle tower.

Japan's largest keyhole-shaped tumulus viewed from high above

The Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2019. The Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun in Sakai City, which is included in the group, is a large-scale ancient tomb that is not only considered one of the three largest ancient tombs in Japan, but is also one of the largest tombs in the world, along with the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor in China. It is about 486 meters long. Its entire view can only be seen from far above. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to take a chartered plane tour to view the ancient tombs from the sky, but it is also true that it is not very accessible. The Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun VR Tour, which is held at Sakai City Museum, allows you to easily enjoy the entire view of the Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun. This is the only place in Osaka where you can enjoy a simulated experience tour of the Mozu Kofun Group from above using VR (virtual reality) technology. The tour uses CG images to recreate the tomb's appearance when it was constructed approximately 1,600 years ago, as well as the stone chamber inside the tomb, which is otherwise off-limits to the public. The realistic images give the viewer the feeling of actually entering the stone chamber, making it a must-see.
