Fushimi-Inari Taisha

This is the head shrine of "Oinari-san", known for its 1,000 torii gates. It has been attracting faith from people for 1,300 years. Behind the main hall, the 1,000 torii gates donated by worshippers stand in a mysterious and magnificent row, creating a truly impressive sight.
Amanohashidate

One of the Three Most Scenic Views of Japan. Many tourists visit this mysterious, natural landscape every year. Amanohashidate is a sandy beach about 20 to 170 meters wide and 3.6 km long, with a rare topography of about 8,000 pine trees. It was named "Amanohashidate" because its shape resembles a bridge in the sky.

This 381.5 meter-high mountain rises to the west of the Togetsu Bridge and is designated as a national historic site of scenic beauty. It is visited by many tourists for its cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall. The symbol of Arashiyama, Togetsu Bridge, is said to have originated from a song sung by Emperor Kameyama, who said that it looked like the moon was crossing the bridge. The trolley train is a sightseeing train that runs along Hozu River the upper reaches of the Oigawa River, where the Watarigetsukyo Bridge is located. The train slows down at scenic spots so that passengers can enjoy the scenery of Arashiyama at a leisurely pace.

「日本緑茶発祥の地」でいただく宇治茶
静岡茶・狭山茶と並び、日本三大銘茶として知られる宇治茶。香りが良く丸みのある味わいが人気で、京都を訪れたら宇治茶をお土産にするという方も多いのではないでしょうか。
その宇治茶の主な産地のひとつが、京都府南部の宇治田原町。鎌倉時代に茶の製造がはじまり、1379年には足利義満による厚い庇護も受けました。
江戸時代中頃には、この町の永谷宗円という人物が、現在の緑茶の礎となる「青製煎茶製法」を開発。この製法により、当時は味も香りも粗末なものだった庶民のお茶が格段に美味しいものになりました。さらに彼は、茶の販路も開拓し、江戸で宇治茶のブームを起こしたそうです。それからというもの、宇治田原町は「日本緑茶発祥の地」とよばれ、茶農家や茶問屋が立ち並ぶ宇治茶の一大産地になりました。現在も、町の製造直売店で美味しい宇治茶を買い求めることができますよ。
宇治田原町を訪れたら、宗円の功績を称えて復元・保存された生家は必見！当時の製茶道具など、貴重な資料を見ることができます。また、近隣の「茶宗明神社」では宗円を祭っており、全国の茶業者が参拝に訪れるそうです。お茶好きの方は、宗円の足跡をたどり、美味しいお茶をいただきに宇治田原町へぜひ足をお運びください。

300年の歴史を紡ぐ「丹後ちりめん」
京都府北部の丹後地域は、「弁当忘れても傘忘れるな」といわれるほど、雨が多い湿潤気候。乾燥を嫌う絹織物の生産に適していました。ここでつくられる「丹後ちりめん」は、300年以上の歴史を紡ぐ絹織物。表面にある「シボ」という細かな凹凸による、しなやかな手触りと深みのある色合いが特徴です。職人たちは、丹後ちりめんの長い歴史を大切にしながらも、現代に適した作品づくりに挑戦し続けています。
丹後ちりめんで栄えた与謝野町では、丹後ちりめん工房の見学ができるほか、手機を使った絹のコースターづくりや糸巻きランプづくり体験も行っています。旅の合間に、世界に一つだけのお土産をつくってみてはいかがでしょうか。
