The largest in the Tokyo metropolitan area! Enjoy autumn foliage at this impressive dam
In Aikawa Town in northern Kanagawa Prefecture, there is Miyagase Dam, one of the largest dams in the Tokyo metropolitan area. It is easily accessible from central Tokyo and Yokohama, and the surrounding area is a natural park, so many people come to take a walk. The highlight is the tourist release that takes place between Apr. and Nov., when 30 liters of water flow down per second, making a roaring sound. The force of the water is so great that tourists cheer, "Wow!". On sunny days, a rainbow can also appear. Miyagase Dam is at its best for viewing autumn leaves from mid- to late Nov.. The contrast between the emerald green lake surface and the colorful mountains is beautiful, so it is a spot that you should definitely visit. Also, pay attention to the incline that was once used to build Miyagase Dam. It is currently used as a cable car that connects the bottom and top of the dam's embankment. The maximum incline is about 35 degrees. You can enjoy a large panorama from the car window. In addition, road trains and sightseeing boats are also operated, so it is nice to view the autumn leaves from a vehicle.
The champion of B-grade gourmet! Enjoy fresh offal in Atsugi
In Atsugi, located in the center of Kanagawa Prefecture, a certain gourmet food is very popular. It is "Atsugi's horumon". It is grilled pork intestine. After the war, the town of Atsugi was lined with horumon-yaki restaurants, and it has been loved by locals for a long time. Its popularity has increased with the boom in B-class gourmet food, and people from inside and outside the prefecture visit Atsugi to enjoy this taste. For hygienic reasons, the skin around the large intestine is split and flattened, then parboiled and grilled. However, "Atsugi's horumon" is served fresh large intestine on the day the pig is slaughtered, without splitting the skin, in a tube shape. This allows you to enjoy the plump texture, umami, and sweetness. In the city, it is a surefire way to eat it with miso sauce. If you visit Atsugi, why not have a bowl of horumon?
