An oasis in the business district that stretches for about 1.5 km from east to west through the center of Sapporo. With well-maintained flower beds in summer and sparkling autumn leaves in autumn, it is a popular resting spot for many locals and tourists. Various events are held throughout the year, such as the Sapporo Snow Festival and the Sapporo White Illumination. Odori Park has a long history. In 1871, a firebreak was built to separate the central area into the government district in the south and the residential and commercial district in the north, which later became Odori Park. When you visit Sapporo, we recommend soothing your tired body with a stroll through Odori Park, where you can feel the history of Sapporo.

Otaru Canal

Otaru Canal is a popular tourist destination in Hokkaido, with its rows of nostalgic old buildings along the canal. The Otaru Canal was completed in 1923 and is a waterway that supported the shipping of Otaru, a port city that supported the development of Hokkaido. It is a historic tourist destination with old-fashioned warehouses lined up along the canal. After its role as a canal ended, it was partially filled in in 1986, and the current appearance was created with walking paths and gardens. The scenery also changes over time. At dusk, the canal and stone warehouses are lit up, creating a different atmosphere from the daytime. Not only the scenery, but also the food is one of the attractions of the Otaru Canal. In particular, the Otaru Canal Restaurant, which is made of stone and has a sense of history, offers a large selection of Hokkaido gourmet food. A seafood bowl made with plenty of Hokkaido seafood. A cafe where you can enjoy soup curry, which originated in Sapporo. You can enjoy a wide variety of food, including ramen restaurants, which are one of Hokkaido 's specialties.

Lake Toya

(Image)

Lake Toya is close to Hakodate and is recommended for those who want to go somewhere a little more besides the standard Hakodate sightseeing. The lake, which spans Toyako Town and Sobetsu Town, offers beautiful scenery and has been selected as one of the "100 Most Viewed Places in Japan." The lake is the ninth largest in Japan in terms of area, and is known as a hot spring resort due to the many volcanoes in the area, such as Showa Shinzan and Usuzan. In 2009, Lake Toya-Usuzan Geopark was certified as a "Global Geopark." It was recognized as an area that can protect valuable geological heritage while promoting science and tourism, and revitalizing the region. After spending a relaxing time in the hot spring town of Lake Toya, why not enjoy the magnificent scenery on Cruise on Lake Toya or take a stroll along the lakeside? It is a spot that can be enjoyed all year round, with a comfortable climate in the summer and pleasant hot springs in the winter.

Shiretoko

(Image)

Located in the eastern part of Hokkaido, at the very edge of the area known as Eastern Hokkaido, it is about 25km wide, 70km long, and large enough to fit 15,200 Tokyo Domes. The name is derived from the Ainu word "Shirietoku," which means "the edge of the earth," "the protruding part of the earth, the dead end, the tip," and is applied to the Japanese name. The tip of the peninsula, including Shiretoko, the northeasternmost point of Japan, is designated as Shiretoko National Park, and much of its natural beauty remains untouched as Japan's last uncharted territory.

Kushiro

(Image)

Japan's largest wetland and a forest with diverse ecosystems. The Kushiro Marsh is the first wetland in Japan to be registered under the Ramsar Convention for the protection of waterfowl, and is the largest wetland in Japan and has been designated a national park. Its total area is approximately 20,000 hectares, and it is also an important habitat for the red-crowned crane and the northern salamander, which are natural monuments. Another great thing about the Kushiro Marsh is that it shows completely different faces depending on the season and angle. There are five observation decks in the Kushiro Marsh: Hosooka Observatory, Hokuto Observatory, Kushiro City Marsh Observatory, Kottaro Marsh Observatory, and Sarubo Sarurun Observatory, and you can enjoy different panoramic views of the marsh at each one. In addition, there are six walking trails, including the Onnekido, where you can enjoy bird watching and plant observation to your heart's content.

Hakodate

Hakodate has many attractive spots such as the beautiful night view from Hakodate, Goryokaku, and the Red Brick Warehouse.
Among them, Hakodate Motomachi, located at the foot of Hakodate, is a port town that opened as an international trading port in 1859. Junduk, the soul food of Asahikawa residents

There are many soul foods in Hokkaido.

Hokkaido is rich in ingredients, and each area has its own unique local gourmet food, such as pork bowl in Obihiro, yakitori bento in Hakodate, omelette curry in Furano, etc. There are many dishes that are not well known but continue to be enthusiastically supported by locals.
Among these, Junduk, the soul food of Asahikawa residents, is one of the most popular gourmet foods at the moment. It is actually a stick-shaped rice ball filled with fried foods such as shrimp marinated in a special sauce.
It's a familiar delicacy at festivals around Asahikawa, but its birthplace is the Western restaurant "Yoshokuya Junpei" in Biei. The standard version is apparently made at "Pigeon Kan." It's perfect for lunch or as a snack while walking around, so if you come to Asahikawa, be sure to give it a try.

I want to try the "mythical crab" freshly boiled Hanasaki crab

Hokkaido is famous for its hairy crabs, but the crab that Hokkaido lovers love is undoubtedly the "mythical crab" Hanasaki crab. Although the name has "crab" in it, Hanasaki crab is a type of hermit crab, and it is said that it got its name from the fact that it turns a vivid crimson color when heated. It is a precious crab that lives in the Pacific Ocean from Cape Erimo to Cape Nosappu, and in Sea of Okhotsk north of the Nemuro Peninsula.
The most common way to eat crab is boiled, but "teppo-jiru" (crab soup) is also known, where crab is chopped into chunks and served in a miso-flavored soup. It can also be eaten as sashimi or with crab roe. It is said that the best season for crab is from summer to early autumn. Even if you live in Hokkaido, it's hard to find freshly boiled crab in season, but in Nemuro, where it originates, you can easily eat it at hotels and restaurants. The taste is rich and sweet, and absolutely delicious. If you're heading out to Eastern Hokkaido, be sure to give it a try.

Muroran Curry Ramen: Will it become Hokkaido "Fourth Taste"?

When it comes to the taste of ramen in Hokkaido, "Sapporo miso", "Asahikawa soy sauce", and "Hakodate noshio" are famous. The fourth flavor that follows this is Muroran curry ramen, which is slowly becoming more popular. It is a taste of the common people that has been popular in the town of Muroran for a long time, and it is said that about 60% of the approximately 50 ramen shops in the city still have curry ramen.
Muroran curry ramen is not just a mixture of curry and ramen, which are the favorite of Japan. The owner of the ramen shop pursued the taste independently and perfected the curry soup that went well with ramen. A typical example is the combination of Hokkaido 's unique small noodles and thick curry soup. It is a gem of local gourmet food with an exquisite harmony of flavors played in the bowl.
In 2006, the "Muroran Curry Ramen Association" was established, and PR activities were started nationwide. The inauguration of Apr. 25 was established as "Muroran Curry Ramen Day". In Muroran, curry ramen is on the menu not only at ramen shops, but also in cafeterias, so it is a part of life. When you visit the Hokkaido area, be sure to give it a try.

What is the mythical luxury fish "Matsukawa"?

Do you know Hokkaido 's phantom high-class fish "Matsukawa"? Matsukawa is a type of flounder, written in kanji as "松皮鰈" or "松川鰈". It is said that the name came from the fact that the scales on the front side are rough and hard, and look like the surface of a pine trunk. In certain areas, it is also called the brand name "Ocho", and it is just like "phantom ~" that there are various names.
Matsukawa sashimi is said to be tastier than flounder. The flavor is strong, and the porch and liver are also exquisite. As a result, it is rarely distributed in the local market, and it ends up in high-end restaurants and sushi restaurants.
The spawning season of Matsukawa is from winter to spring. It is said that the season is from autumn to winter, when nutrients are stored in preparation for spawning. At this time of year, the Matsukawa are squirming, and the females are carrying eggs, which is also irresistible. It is also best boiled or grilled with salt.
It is mainly caught on the coast of southern Hokkaido, such as Hakodate, so when you visit this area, why not check out the restaurants in the city. You may be lucky enough to encounter a phantom taste.

We would like to express our condolences to all those who are currently facing this unprecedented and difficult situation around the world.

(General Incorporated Association) East Hokkaido DMO Chairman of the Road to Natural Beauty Ueno Mr. Yoji

East Hokkaido is originally a field of social distance with few people, scattered and including animals.
In our DMO website, we again acknowledge the message of Higashi Hokkaido as a new tourism style, and also include the activities of local people who live close to nature.
We are also organizing and disseminating information on the entire East Hokkaido region, including information on facilities and things that are of interest based on our DMO's own nationwide survey, such as places where people gather, food, boats, etc., and how they are responding.
Normally, it is a secluded and natural Higashi Hokkaido.
Now is the time to heal at Hokkaido... and we hope you will visit us when the time is right....
