It is a rare hot spring that springs from the sea, and is said to have excellent heat retention properties and to stimulate metabolism. The Tottori Sand Dunes are a tourist attraction visited by approximately 1.5 million people annually. They are one of the largest sand dunes in Japan, stretching 16km east to west and 2.4km north to south, with a maximum elevation difference of approximately 90m. The "wind ripples" created by the wind are worth seeing. There are also plenty of activities available, such as "paragliding," "sandboarding," and "fat biking," so you can experience nature with your whole body.

Mt. Daisen

Also known as the "Mount Fuji of the West," this mountain is the highest peak in the Chugoku region, at 1,709 meters above sea level. Until the Meiji era, entry to the mountain was prohibited as it was a sacred site for mountain Buddhism, and so even today, untouched natural beauty remains, making it a popular spot for forest bathing and nature observation. The "Mt. Daisen Summer Climbing Opening Festival" is held on the first Sunday Jun. every year, marking the start of the full-scale summer mountain climbing season. The hiking trails are well maintained for easy walking, and it takes about three hours to reach the summit. From the peak, you can enjoy a spectacular view that stretches out to the Sea of Japan.

Numerous sculptures that make use of the beauty of nature

The Tottori Sand Dunes were created by nature over countless years. The Sand Museum was born from the desire to make use of the sand and give visitors to Tottori an unprecedented experience. As the name suggests, the museum only exhibits sculptures made of sand. It is produced by Katsuhiko Chaen, a sand sculptor active both in Japan and overseas. Sand sculptors are invited from various countries around the world to exhibit the world's best sand sculptures every year. Since the theme changes every year, the sculptures return to their original sand after the exhibition period. The sand sculptures, which can only exist for a limited time, show the passion that the sculptors poured into creating these ephemeral yet beautiful shapes. Be sure to visit the museum to experience not only the precision and power of the finished sand sculptures, but also the charm of the fact that they do not last forever.

Tottori's local coffee loved by locals

Did you know that the Tottori Governor's famous words "We may not have XXX, but Tottori has the best sandbox in Japan!" became a hot topic? That was the starting point for the opening of Sunaba Coffee, a popular chain store. Currently, a certain coffee chain has expanded into Tottori Prefecture, but Sunaba Coffee has gained popularity by taking its own route and establishing itself as a popular store. In addition to its specialty coffee, the store also offers a wide variety of gourmet dishes. Popular dishes include the Mosaebi Hot Sandwich and Mosaebi Curry, which use Mosaebi shrimp, also known as the "phantom shrimp" because they are rarely shipped outside of Tottori Prefecture. When you are enjoying sightseeing in Tottori, why not stop by Sunaba Coffee for a break?
