Izumo Taisha

(Image)

Widely known as a sacred place for matchmaking, Izumo Taisha is an ancient shrine whose founding is recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, said to be the oldest books in Japan. In the myth of the transfer of the country recorded in the Kojiki, Okuninushi-no-Mikoto handed over the country to Amaterasu-Omikami of Takamagahara, and the Amanohisumi-no-Miya shrine built at that time is said to be the beginning of Izumo Taisha.

This mining site was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007. The old tunnels where silver was once mined, and the streetscape of Omori leading to Ryugenji-Mabu, still retain a nostalgic atmosphere that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to the Edo period.

Enjoy Izumo gourmet "Zenzai" as a dessert♪

Speaking of tourist spots in Shimane, Izumo Taisha is famous. Izumo Taisha is a famous spot that can be said to be the symbol of Izumo, which is also called the "Land of the Gods." When you visit Izumo Taisha, many people are looking forward to enjoying the gourmet food at the nearby Shinmon Street.
There are many "Zenzai" shops on Shinmon-dori. Zenzai is said to have originated in Izumo and was served at the Kamiari Festival.
It's also nice to go on a cafe hopping tour to try the various zenzai sweets, such as zenzai roll cakes, parfaits, and galettes.

The No. 1 producer in Japan! Large-flowered peonies

The origins of peony production on Daikonjima date back about 300 years. It is said that when the head priest of Zenryuji Temple came to Akihayama in Shizuoka Prefecture to train, he brought back some for medicinal purposes and planted them in the temple grounds. After that, it grew into a major industry through quality improvements and sales efforts.
There are many peony gardens on the island, but the one we recommend is Yushien Garden, where you can enjoy peonies all year round.
During Golden Week, the best time to see peonies in a year, the "Pond Peony" appears, where 30,000 peonies fill the pond. Also, during the "Daikonjima Peony Festival" held every year on Daikonjima, there is a unique event called the "Peony Ranking."
Yushien Garden not only displays peonies, but also hosts various events throughout the year, such as autumn foliage illuminations and winter illuminations. It's a spot you'll want to visit again and again.
