Izumo Taisha

Widely known as a sacred place for matchmaking, Izumo Taisha is an ancient shrine whose founding is recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, said to be the oldest books in Japan. In the myth of the transfer of the country recorded in the Kojiki, Okuninushi-no-Mikoto handed over the country to Amaterasu-Omikami of Takamagahara, and the Amanohisumi-no-Miya shrine built at that time is said to be the beginning of Izumo Taisha.
Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine

This mining site was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007. The old tunnels where silver was once mined, and the streetscape of Omori leading to Ryugenji-Mabu, still retain a nostalgic atmosphere that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to the Edo period.

出雲グルメ「ぜんざい」をスイーツで召し上がれ♪
島根の観光スポットといえば「出雲大社」が有名です。出雲大社は「神々の国」と呼ばれる出雲の象徴ともいえる名所。そんな出雲大社を訪れたときは、近くにある神門通りでグルメを味わうのも楽しみにされている方も多いのではないでしょうか？
神門通りで特に多いのは「ぜんざい」のお店。ぜんざいは神在祭で振る舞われていたもので、出雲が発祥といわれています。
ぜんざいのロールケーキやパフェ、ガレットなど、様々なぜんざいスイーツを食べにカフェめぐりをするのもいいですね。

生産量日本一！大輪の花咲く牡丹
大根島の牡丹生産のはじまりは約300年前にまでさかのぼります。全隆寺住職が静岡県の秋葉山へ修業に訪れたとき、薬用として持ち帰って境内に植えたのが最初と伝えられているのだとか。その後、品質改良や販売努力によって一大産業へと成長していきました。
島内にはさまざまな牡丹苑がありますが、おすすめは「由志園」。牡丹を一年中楽しむことができます。
1年で最大の牡丹の見頃を迎えるゴールデンウイークには、3万輪もの牡丹が池を埋め尽くす「池泉牡丹」が登場。また、例年大根島で開催される「大根島ぼたん祭」の時期には、「牡丹番付」というユニークな企画もあるんですよ。
由志園では牡丹だけでなく、紅葉ライトアップ、冬のイルミネーションなどと四季を通してさまざまな企画が開催されています。何度でも訪れたくなるスポットです。
